Designing the gardens of the El Fuerte hotel in Marbella has been a different and special experience for me. It started almost 5 years ago. Since then it has already rained, time has passed. El Fuerte is an icon in the city of Marbella. It was, was..."The Hotel".
On a small and occupied surface, mostly by hard pavement, the landscaping of the El Fuerte hotel runs through two opposite areas.
Everything in it is opposite: north south, tradition, modernity, shade, sun, movement, calm, and so are the gardens.
Formed by two separate gardens. Connected by a powerful building, whose restoration project has been rather to do it again, is the work of the architect and friend Pablo Liev of Liev Rodriguez Architecture. He brought calm and serenity to countless moments of technical, emotional, family, administrative and archaeological tension. It's a pleasure to have you around.
The access garden has had to collaborate or coexist, and sometimes even compete, with a dense pine forest that has been a hallmark of the hotel itself since its foundation. Almost therefore, this area of the garden is a shady garden, where the plants are mostly the happiest in this environment. The result is a garden with an exuberance of species, which have been chosen to play with their leaves in shapes, textures and colors.
The garden that overlooks the sea, the garden of the pool area, is reduced to flowerbeds and planters in which the chosen plantations tolerate the salinity of the proximity to the coast and the sun. Sun that is enjoyed, as are the customers, by a mixture of species among which there are abundant, those that let themselves be rocked by the wind and the breeze of the Mediterranean.
