Green roofs, bees and a great benefit for everyone.

Thinking about the closeness of things always gives me peace of mind, as if everything is in balance. A space where everything coexists in the simplicity of life. In the city of Utrecht, 300 shelters have been set up at bus stops for bees and all pollinating insects. This ecological initiative consists of installing miniature gardens on the roofs of these 316 stalls, to provide pollen to bees and improve the air for the community.

Thus, according to the city council of Utrecht and the advertising company Clear Channel, this idea seeks to ensure biodiversity in the commune, give a better quality of life for neighbors and protect bees. As a fact, bees form their hives in the 200 meters closest to their pollen sources. Pollen is a reproductive and nutritive substance of flowers that is rich in protein, and that bees transform into honey to feed their larvae. To make honey, each worker bee visits more than 7,000 flowers every day. This work is very exhausting for bee populations, so the Utrecht initiative sets an example for other international communities to improve the quality of life of these insects and ensure the future of our planet. This innovative project enhances urban sustainability, inspires residents to adopt eco-friendly practices, and significantly contributes to a healthier environment. Many other Dutch cities, such as Rotterdam and Amsterdam, have followed suit. Cities abroad, such as Copenhagen and Malmö, have also been inspired by this initiative.

Green roofs offer numerous economic, ecological and social benefits. A vegetation cover retains rainwater, purifies the air, reduces ambient temperature, regulates temperature, saves energy and promotes biodiversity in the city. And fundamentally, we are all much happier in a living environment than in a grey environment.
