Frank Gehry, architect and winner of the 1989 Pritzker Prize, dies at 96. We received this news a week ago; there is no doubt he is a benchmark in architecture and in large metal structures. Gehry created iconic and distinctive works around the world and has been an inspiration for many.
To remember him, I would like to revisit his 2004 work, where the use of exterior space is the continuous axis of the concept: the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, the centerpiece of Millennium Park. Gehry’s characteristic organic forms are expressed in the stage and in the wave-like structures that extend in an enveloping way. At the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, open-air concerts are held every summer; nature and the industrial merge to create a space for human experience.
